YouTube Building for Beginners

With more than 30 million YouTube channels out there, starting a channel that is completely your own can be a daunting task. Finding what sets you apart and captures viewers’ attention is no small task, but a great feat you can achieve with the right approach.

The most important thing in starting a successful YouTube channel is knowing who you want your audience to be. Are there others out there doing something similar to what you are doing? How can you differentiate the content you post? “What’s your channel about? If your answer is ‘my channel is about beauty and travel and vlogging’ then it’s about too many things. Get rid of all the ands. It should be about one specific topic when you start your channel. You need to appeal to one specific audience.” Find your specific sweet spot of what you love and are passionate about. Run with that and viewers will find you.

Another important note is allowing your audience to influence the content you post. Studying your algorithms is a great way to do this. You’ll find out what videos are more successful and less successful. Work from there to find what really brings in more interaction. By posting content that viewers love to watch and interact with, you build trust in your brand. You build a station that viewers continually visit.

As important as it is to make engaging content, it is just as important to make that content high quality. Viewers are much more inclined to engage with a channel that is well put together. One way to do this is to produce short, concise bumpers and trailers for your videos and channel. When someone visits your channel, they should be able to know exactly what you are all about by the time they finish watching a 30 to 90 second trailer at the head of your page. “I’m going to see what this person is about. I need to know whether or not I should invest my time here.” This concept is also important in utilizing thumbnails. Providing a title that sparks interest, but is not misleading is vital. Nobody wants to watch 30 minutes of content and end up not having their question answered. This is another great opportunity to build trust in your brand.

Starting a YouTube channel will take time, attention, and effort. If you can successfully find your voice among the rest, you will be sure to build a brand that excites viewers and keeps them coming back to watch more.
